Our New Kershaw Centre, Bury site has built capacity for up to 60 pupils across KS3 and Y10. Here we support pupils with SEMH needs, who have either been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream school. More recently we have adapted our provision to meet the needs of more pupils being referred to the Radcliffe site who have SEN needs or an Education Health Care Plan.
At New Kershaw Centre Bury we have balanced and supported the transition from KS2 to KS3 with our curriculum offer.
Year 7s arriving to Spring Lane School will be part of the new nurture curriculum at the site, which offers a wide curriculum, but supported with a thematic curriculum of 'topic' similar to that seen in Primary education, where themes like Religious Education and British Values are taught. The transitions in our KS4 offer have been catered for with the introduction of our own vocational offer.
Our curriculum offer at New Kershaw Centre Bury currently consists of the following subjects;
A pupils day starts at 9.15am with registration and finishes at 1.30pm.
Pupils will have 5 lessons per day, consisting of 50 minutes each lesson.
A 15 minute break and a 20 minute lunch is also built into the day.
A 15 minute check-in and check-out is at the start and the end of the day, as part of our Personal Development Policy to prepare pupils for learning, reflect on learning, undertake reading and discuss pastoral issues.
The typical week offer for a pupil at the site is 21 hours.
